Abstract

I’ve been lucky enough to practice yoga with April for the last 10 years. Whether in class or in a private session, April inspires me to work hard, move carefully, and to tap into the healing power of yoga. April’s gift of touch is uncanny. When she finely tunes my body in an adjustment, it is as if she makes an imprint – I can later move myself into that position as if she were still with me.

April Martucci is one of those rare advanced practitioners of an art (any art) who can teach at the highest level while making their knowledge accessible to anyone who has the heart to make an honest effort. Count yourself most fortunate if you have the opportunity to study with her for an hour or a lifetime.

April is a terrific teacher. She got me started on yoga at my advanced age!  She seems to know exactly how to encourage her students without scolding or even undue correcting. She keeps you moving and helps you to forget yourself for the duration of the class — a valuable lesson. There is just the right mixture of vigor, sweat, and escape from the confines of the body–freedom to be who you are! Thank you April!

There is no teacher in NYC like April Martucci. She is one of those teachers who makes each moment full and rich with learning, gifted in her art and equally gifted in her ability to share it. I have introduced April to many friends; it is a gift they are constantly thanking me for.

I have been practicing yoga with April for 5 years.  I follow her classes wherever she goes.  She is strong yet sensitive and brings real life experiences to the mat that make yoga more real for us layman.  I have a strong bond with April.  She’s the best!

What got me so addicted to April’s yoga classes was what I call her tough love teaching style – a vigorous asana practice coupled with a brutally honest philosophy. But really I should just call it love. April challenges her students to grow stronger physically and spiritually because she loves them. She inspired me and gave me the courage to become a teacher.

April has an incredible awareness of the human body, and of the human spirit. Her classes go to the core of both, nourishing our souls while challenging our bodies and minds to grow to levels we never thought were possible.

She takes her work seriously, and her students receive the benefit of her attention to detail. If you are interested in an instructor who can teach technique, give a workout, and make you enjoy all of it, she is the one.

April’s classes are my retreat in the city!  It is a mixture of challenging us and also letting us have our own subtle style is a perfect balance.  The spiritual tidbits are always food for thought and I often leave class with a whole new way of thinking.

The second April Martucci starts the theme in her classes, the world stops.  It’s naturally tantalizing and seeping with soft urgency.  Her constant attention to being on the Path roots her further each day.  I feel that when she is speaking it is as if I’m home, and we all know how maturity loves a real home.

I return every week  because she challenges my capacity to experience discomfort and recognize that the other side of discomfort is a calm and a renewed strength.

April’s class is healing, challenging, empowering and relaxing – all at the same time. As is April herself.  I always know I will walk out of that class feeling stronger than when I went in, whether that’s physically or emotionally. April, and her class, have been a positive presence in my life.
